CAC War Kitty – I’d Rather Be Blue (Unplugged)

I was walking around for a couple of days… wanting to record this song I wrote : I’d Rather Be Blue. I was going to do it with an accoustic guitar. It was going to be ‘unplugged’.

Finally I said I’m going to do it now… 40 minutes later it was done… and what took the longest was getting the microphone settings right… test one-two.

I did it straight through in one take… just me and the guitar… not the accoustic but rather my Fender Stratocaster which was plugged into the amp and ready to go… so I used it.

It is about as close as you can get without us being in the same room.

This photo cracks me up. Jan shot it. We were hamming it up out back while she was putting her new camera lens through the paces.

When I saw this ‘pose’ I knew what had to be done… it’s a cross between Devo and someone channeling a higher power. So, I slapped this puppy together.

I’ve been walking around with this song for quite a while. I’ve tried to present it in a variety of ways but none ever made me feel like I was doing it justice. Then I hit on this arrangement. I feel good about it.

The song is about whatever you think it is about. You fill in the blanks of the images you create. I just write it and try not top analize the result. I have had my say and now it is yours.

PEJUTA

This is the cover art for my next album “Pejuta”. The 5 song EP will be available in September and will contain songs I wrote that were inspired by Native Americans.

I spent a week at the Pine Ridge Reservation visiting a friend and it was a real eye opener and a wonderful experience.

I’ll elaborate on the experience and the songs, all instrumental, as we get closer to the EP’s availability. ‘Pejuta’ will be downloadable from your favorite online music store.

Pejuta means medicine in the Lacota language.
